Who doesn't complain when it comes to paying tax. Right? And isn't the UK tax system one of the most onerous on the planet? Everything seems to incur some kind of tax - 'stealth' or otherwise.
But before you complain too much, remember, the services we all enjoy, and perhaps take for granted, such as hospitals, good roads (yes, there ARE some), the police and our armed services, have to be PAID for.
And one of the main sources of government revenue, used to pay for all of these services, is, of course, income tax.
Income tax is not the only source of revenue collected by the government.
Capital gains tax is another, as is inheritance tax, VAT, excise duty, stamp duty and so on. Even national insurance contributions are a form of taxation (if not in name).
The UK tax system is not the easiest system to understand, which is why we've put this handy tax guide together.
Hopefully, after reading it, you'll have a better understanding of what's involved.
And to emphasize the point made elsewhere on this website, this section is a guide and no more. Consult an independent financial adviser if you require advice on UK tax or on any other financial matter.
